Tuna fishing and fin hunting has these whitetip sharks in danger.
Their population has dropped by 95% in the western and central Pacific. And the species has just been reclassified as ‘critically endangered.”

Whitetip sharks used to be one of the most common open water shark in the tropics. These sharks are prized for their fins and often end up trapped in tuna fishing nets because they swim close to the surface.

Scientists predict the sharks will disappear if current fishing practices don’t change.
