Goodbye Stranger es la tercera canción de su sexto álbum Breakfast In América.
En esta etapa, Supertramp se convirtió en un éxito global lanzando este nuevo disco, el cuál los lanzó a la fama y a la cima de los rankings, dando tours y conciertos de mucho éxito como lo fue el Live in Paris de 1979. Rick, Roger, John, Bob y Dougie finalmente alcanzaron la fama esperada y eran la banda ideal, sin embargo, a pesar de las expectativas superadas y la increíble fama que lograron con este álbum, empezaron a surgir ciertos pleitos entre los dos cantautores principales (Rick y Roger). Dichos argumentos eventualmente llevarían a la renuncia de Roger Hodgson y el comienzo de una nueva era de Supertramp.
