What NOT To Do In A Turbo Car

Driving style and bad habits can also lead to premature engine failure and wear. Bolt on parts will only get you so far. These are a few of the common issues and things that I see happen to people so hopefully this can help you avoid damaging your engine and save your wallet a little cash. Some of these may seem like common sense but a friendly reminder is always nice and if your new to the car world then hopefully these can save you some heart ache later down the road.

For long term turbo life, if you dont have a turbo timer, make sure to keep your engine idle for 30 seconds to 1 min 30 seconds depending on how hot your engine is. You want to let cooler oil get into your turbo and let your turbo cool down so your turbo doesnt burn oil when you turn off the car.

Excellent info, never lug that turbo, just a side note, I know a 67 year old woman who has a 2002 WRX, she has 324k and nothing done and burns no oil ! Also know a young guy who's first car was a 2003 WRX, it was mint with only 80k, I know cause I sold it to him, after one month, knock, just shows you that it's about how you drive it ! Nothing else to add you have covered everything anybody needs to know about these cars in you're videos, keep it coming !

Excellent video sir. I've had turbo vehicles in the past to include a 2011 Mitsubishi Ralliart and 2016 Ford Focus ST. Both great vehicles for what they were, but with my recent new WRX purchase, I'm aiming to be a LOT more careful on how I treat and drive the car. These points are spot on especially that last one, I've made the mistake of dogging it in 6th gear in the ST going up a decent grade mountain and started running into issues. Just drop a gear or two and let the engine sing like it should.

Another one 🔥 great info 🤓 It's been fun getting to learn how to drive this car as it's my first car with a turbo. I've definitely learned to take it out to dinner first and not just WOT. Really, I'm never at WOT which is still a little strange. Keep em coming 😋

This is a great vid. The other day I got on my car getting onto the freeway and had a sudden drop in DAM to 0.938/0.938 as well as constant Fine knock adjustment 0.00 to 0.26 under load. I was really worried. I looked into the issue on NASIOC, forums there had the same issue due to high atmospheric temps above 90 or bad fuel. To remedy this it was recommended to reset the Cobb Accessport, add Lucas Octane Boost and refuel with better gasoline. So far it’s good, I won’t wot until this fuel with octane booster and bad fuel is completely replaced with good fuel. I’m really glad you brought this up. Thanks amigo 🤙🏼
