Glycolysis Song

Показать описание
This is a song I wrote on a scrap piece of paper and wound up using it for mentoring in physiology. Focus on the WORDS not the voice, as I do not claim at all that I can sing like Katy Perry.
Here's a glucose molecule. Let's turn it into fuel, perhaps a pyruvate or two- that's what glycolysis will do.
It works anaerobically, to get us that ATP. Takes place in the cytosol, but just wait cuz that's not all.
Glycolytic pathways are still anaerobic even when there's O2 near. I hope that this point is clear.
Glycolysis takes a six-carbon sugar, gives us pyruvate you know, but from here where does it go?
Fermentation, it does more than just make beer. When you have no O2 near then some lactate will appear, but where there is oxygen available, pyruvate's oxidized into acetyl-coA and CO2. From here we go to the Kreb's cycle...
In the mitochondrion, aerobic respiration. It takes acetyl-coA and makes CO2 on the way. It works aerobically to get us that ATP.
Don't forget the coenzymes, we will need them in good time.
Some NADH and FADH is needed to transfer hydrogens for this next step, yes, it's true.
Oxidative phosphorlyation is a beast. Makes a ton of ATP- our cell's favorite energy.
Physiology, it might make you wanna cry. Just stick with it you'll be fine.
It's not like you're gonna die! Just keep coming to mentoring. We'll do our best to aid your learning.
