Howdy, I was born in the hub of the South Texas valley town, Alice, Texas in 1963. These 60's and 70's Texas movies. Take me back to my childhood. When playing with Horned Toads was just part of a summer's day. Them Horned Toads are now a rare find. I highly recommend the Peter Fonda movie. Race With The Devil (1975). It has a similar theme to this movie. But it was a big-budget Hollywood film.

Finally we see the real Tangella. Anyone that can get the trust from a dog like that, have a good heart. The movie is historically interesting, as the Satanic panic were rampant in those days.
Anything closely related to Satan were extra scary for no good reason. Monks with torches singing in latin ? 20 years later, they were a hit on the music charts. Yes, that really happened.

From IMDB: Had its television premier on the KTVU weekly CREATURE FEATURES show, which included guests from the film's production interviewed by host Bob Wilkins.

There might be more to this film than meets the eye.
Although it might seem ridiculous that so many people died at the hands of the local cult without being
detected, in reality a huge number of people do go missing every year. So it isn't far-fetched to connect fact
with fiction. Also the re-appearance of ancient cults is not far-fetched at all; it's true.
What is really telling is that the producers included the mention of cinnabar in the story. Now, you might wonder, what is the significance of cinnabar in the narrative? It turns out that ancient powerful ruling dynastic religious cults used mercury in their holy sanctuaries ACROSS THE GLOBE, from ancient China to the Americas!
Many or all of these cults were chthonic; relating to the underworld (caves, tunnels, and graves). The cults practiced human sacrifice and perhaps ritual cannibalism. Permeating these religions was the belief in re-incarnation of ancestral spirits and possession. That's a lot of meaning to pack into a drive-in B movie for a
Friday night date in 1972.
