Here are a few exercises to help you increase the rhythmic variety in your Jazz solos. Use these to escape from the monotonous, college-style 8th notes soloing. Improve your jazz improvisation.

The ideas in this video are not something you should think about when you PLAY, but they ARE something you have to think about when you practice, so that when you do play - your mind has already been trained to give your solo a variety of rhythmic values, thereby making the solo more balanced, which is another way of saying more interesting, which is another way of saying more Great.

Great idea and a much more interesting way to practice. I have stacks of jazz books full of eighth note lines but they never strike me as being very melodic. Where I live I doubt I will get to jam outside my practice room but melodic ideas are what interest me rather than just running the changes

Could you do a video about getting creative with scales. People usually know their scales, but don’t know how to used them in a creative manner. Thanks!!! The videos are great!

Thankyou Ruslan for that clarity. Was just trying to find something to help me teach a student to get some rhythmic variety and syncopation into her playing and you’ve really helped!

Hello Ruslan, thank you so much for your lessons. I have a technical question: can I find somewhere the backing tracks you are soloing on ?
