I hope this property stays in your family for a long time. Someday these will hopefully be Grandpa Matt’s trees. 😊

I'm going to have to do a tick check after I'm finished watching your video, Matt.

It's nice to see someone putting fields back into woodlands!! Thank you.

Good to see you used the ‘bagel of life’ instead of the ‘volcano of death’ for your mulching. 😊

All you need to do is build a little log cabin out in that meadow and you've literally got a little house on the prairie. Your daughter could dress up and tumble down the hill just like the real thing. Looking good, Pa Cremona! 😉

Good work; planting for the future is a good thing. Sorry about the dead trees

"Gotta come back to move the camera". Thanks for editing that in to the video. Fellini like work. Thanks for acknowledging what you are doing.

My father, may he rest in peace, used to say “It is an optimist who plants a tree”. I agree.

Another bite of wisdom is “When is the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. But today is the second best time”.

I love your optimism Matthew.

Kudo's to John for providing the Gingko's (or Maidenhair for some of us). This is one of the fastest growing most hardy species for your climate. We have enjoyed ours in Michigan and agree that it is favorite ornamentally especially in the fall.

Last spring meaning 2023 I searched my property for new seedlings finding some oak and Maple all doing great in the growth tubes. My wife said all but 2 of the 8 survived the Cicadas. So back to finding replacement seedlings

The Norway spruce should do well -- we have a line of them along the back of our yard in Madison, WI. They were there when we bought the house over 30 years ago, and they are a great "screen"

I've read that mulching around the trees really enhances growth rate and survival. A third or so of a tractor bucket around each would be plenty. It would also suppress the grass around the trres and make it easier to maintain around them.

So many people cutting down trees. I once had a neighbor who clear cut 20 acres. I asked why she cut all the trees and her answer was to have pasture. No animals, just pasture.
I once lived on a lake where lots were being sold and developed. One by one each buyer cut down trees to have a view across the lake. Soon everyone on the lake had a view. A VIEW OF THEIR NEIGHBORS HOUSE. Thanks for putting some back
