In this video, we're taking a look at the controversial Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft. Star Wars Outlaws has been at the center of controversy since before it was released, but we attempt to take a deep dive look into the good, the bad, and the ugly of the first Open World Star Wars Game. Is it as good or bad as people say, or somewhere in the middle?

What did you think of Star Wars Outlaws? Also, I will be at PAX Aus in a couple weeks, so if you're at the event come say hi!

The wildest part of this whole story is that Ubisoft is full of people who are so out of touch with reality that they were completely blindsided by the poor sales and complaints. I guess that’s what happens when you spend years getting rid of anyone in your company who’s remotely competent and replace them with people who refuse to even play video games and treat their refusal as a badge of honor

Devs replaced by accountants and execs. Real gamers replaced by quick-insta-fame-fake-gurus. By people who, in past, called us 'losers' cuz we were gamers or loved Anime. I recently made a John Wick style action montage using Splinter Cell Blacklist stylish takedowns. Looks badass with music I chose. If only we got a proper JW game that way, Ubi could license...They had all the right tools; if only didn't take real gamers who made this industry collossus for granted...

Completely unrelated, but the amount of ad breaks I've been getting on this platform recently is absolutely bonkers.

Assassin’s creed 2 (a game from 2009) had better gameplay and story than this game 😭

Ubisoft deserves their downfall

The more you play the less you like the game is a Ubisoft trademark at this point.

A few things I didn't hear in this video and frustrated me throughout the game
1. Bugs. I had the game crash on me or freeze on me several times. I can't tell what's causing it.
2. Some areas and collision detection is way off. Immersive braking as Kay gets stuck in bushes and rocks.
3. The whole thing about how I can only climb or walk where it is allowed and cannot climb where I am not. Imagine a pile or rocks almost forming a stairs up and the game won't allow to climb it. This is so 1990s.
4. "Get back to the playing area 5..4...3..2..1"... Are you kidding me? Why am I constrained into a box? Even in space, I just happened to boost away in a direction and the countdown begun. Another 1990 thing.
5. Speeder is horrible to handle. Having only full gas or off is bad, no gradual throttle control, not to mention the terrible controls, I had to turn off the mouse. Maybe works for you guys on the console, but with mouse and keyboard, the controls had to be adjusted immediately. Whoever designed it has never designed vehicles in games.
6. The game needs patches badly. I know the game isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but please at least start patching it up. People who are barely hanging on like me, who are major Star Wars geeks, we are getting turned off by the game breaking bugs.
7. Dropping the weapon if I do something other than shooting, this doesn't look like a game feature, it's almost like this game wasn't finished. That would also explain that there are several places on the maps that looks like designed to have something, like big doors or hidden caves and yet it's inaccessible.

Ocean wide, puddle deep when it comes to actual gameplay design with UBI. It's blasphemous that internally, they were refering to this as 'red dead star wars'. A single npc in red dead 2 has more detail and dynamism than most of the gameplay systems in outlaws.

Star Wars Galaxies is the first Open World Star Wars game. Still playable today because of fan supported servers.

Star Wars games without lightsabers and the force should be illegal. Not everybody wants to be locked to Cal Kestis and Force Unleashed was way better as a Star Wars game when it came to how powerful a player would feel. We need an updated Force Unleashed with character customization. If i wanted to be a little girl running around waving a gun, I woulda played Tomb Raider.

First proper open world Star Wars game? Really? I guess I imagined Star Wars Galaxies and The Old Republic, which I apparently didn't play for years upon years each.

They could’ve made her not being able to knockout stormtroopers a thing, later expanding upon it by giving her the ability too with some type of melee stun tool

The weirdest design decision regarding stealth in Outlaws is that you can do stealth takedowns, but you can not hide the body - and enemies react if they see one....

Sad but true. I looked forward to this game. Really thought it would be great, and even preordered it (first and last time I’ll ever preorder any game).
But from the get go, once I got to Toshara… and drove around Toshara… and couldn’t leave Toshara… and had to go back yet again to sneak in and get some data pad in that same imperial base on Toshara… I became bored and frustrated with this game. Once I could leave Toshara, it was already too late. The game was dead to me, a boring slog till the end. Uninstalled as soon as I completed the main story, never to be played again. Lesson learned.

Just need one open world
with one good map/planet.
InFamous or Spider-Man
Or God forbid
…RDR.

You crash land.
Create a Jedi or Sith.
Spend the rest of the game
fixing your ship.

Deal with the politics of that
planet however you wish.

(You have complete autonomy)

And once you fix your ship.
…Game over.

Choose your ending. (Jedi or Sith)

I hear you. I'm replaying AC Brotherhood and instant fail stealth is so frustrating but you'd think it would be gone 2 generations later

If you're gonna have an enforced stealth section, at least have it so that I could theoretically finish it after being spotted. The Yiga hideout in Breath of the Wild does this. If you get spotted, you'll die from one hit. But if you manage to take out all of the enemies without taking any damage, you can still complete the section.

the game has received updates.
I have recently asked "have they removed the *mandatory* stealth missions?" the content creator said no.

Nothing can be "very unique"; it's either unique or not. You mean very unusual. This is a constant error by Americans for some reason.

Nice in depth review. I was intrigued by the idea of an open world Star Wars game but now I think I’ll save my $$ and hard pass
