On this occasion the medical practitioner in charge of the ward was more powerful than the PM and the PM accepted it, as he should. The PM cannot just do what he wants, he wasn't in charge of the ward.

Now that's democracy ! When you can say to the Prime Minister, " OUT " 👍🇬🇧

Good for the doc!! He's enforcing his authority and protecting his patients by thinking about the infection risk! Good man!!

We need a lot more doctors like this in the NHS.

I like the way one of Cameron's officials tries to calm the doctor down. The stupid thing is that the patient allow Cameron and Clegg to use him as a photo-op. Didn't he realise he was being set up? Those two wouldn't know what a NHS hospital was unless it was being used for political ends. No doubt Cameron had a quiet word with the adminstrator to get the guy sacked.

Good for you! Fantastic, mate. It shows great care and passion for your job when you do what is right instead of what is easy in a situation like that.

@StarCraftSaint :'Naked below the elbow' is an absolute MUST in any hygenically run hospital setting. Bugs grow in your clothes and you can't wash them between patient's contact .... unlike your hands .... that's how bugs get spread .... by touch!

Love it! Consultant telling off one of the most powerful men in the world because the camera crew weren't conforming to the sterile ward rules. No ties, sleeves up and alcohol rub clean. Only in England!

He was right, the rule applies to everyone, sleeves up and ties off. Clegg and cameron did but the others didnt. Its just a shame no one else picked up on it and asked them to observe the correct procedure before entering the ward. Im sure those hospital business managers were all wetting themselves following the ministers around with their clipboards. I remember working in A&E and it was a nightmare every day and night, patients on trollies everywhere. The quietest shift i ever worked was when the health secretary came to visit. I had never seen so many managers in A&E working to get patients out of there and it was empty :-) thats how it works, hide the problem because if you dont you get fined. Sad really but reality in the NHS

Maybe somebody told the surgeon 25 years ago, as a joke, that you had to wear a bow-tie, and we've just witnessed 25 years of pent up aggression unleashed, as to why absolutely else was adhering to this policy.

He had a right to enforce hospital rules being a doctor

*In David Cameron's mind*
Doctor: Oh well thanks for coming Mr Cameron
David Cameron: Oh it's my pleasure...

The surgeon seems more concerned that he has been TOLD to walk around wearing short sleeves than to explain to the crew the health risks to his patients. I expect if he was incentivised to do so he would. Poor man they must have interrupted his private work on top of his NHS salary.

@MrMatthewbrad I agree fully - however - it is not the rules that are the problem, it was his rudeness, arrogance and self pomposity that was completely uncalled for - he should have been way more professional about sharing his concerns rather than shouting like a pre pubescent teenager on a football pitch.

One of the reasons I love YT is the quality of the debate! Marvellous stuff, keep it up chaps!

David Cameron did ask permission of course! it was the camera crew that didn't!

The doctor was right, but there was no need to be so aggressive. It's not healthy for the patients to be in a stressful environment like that.

I agree with the doctor, he has obviously dedicated his life to help people get better. I dont blame him for speaking up when a bunch of suits walk in and completely disregard the hygiene rules set for everyone. Good on him!
