The martial arts genre was huge hit for anime back in the 80’s and 90’s (EX: Street Fighter 2V, Crying Freeman, Fatal Fury, DBZ). Now it seems like Netflix is reviving it with Kengan, Baki, Tekken, Records of Ragnarok, and now this.👍

This is where Netflix thrive in my own opinion.

Weird that some people think this series is a Baki ripoff, since it first began as a series of novels around the time (if not right before) Baki started its run. Itagaki and the author of Garouden know eachother, some characters from Garouden have even appeared in a few of the Baki spinoff mangas.

This is the reason I keep Netflix. By far some of the best anime content. This is my favorite genre of anime. Genuine hand to hand combat.

2:04, that individual is the actual main protagonist of the Garouden story, named Bunshichii Tanba.

Something I like about Garouden is that every adaptation of this novel series goes in a completely different direction, and this is clearly no exception. I'm excited to see what this new take Yumekumura's world brings to the table.

For those who don't know there is also a ps2 game which is based of this show called "Garouden Break Blow - Fist or Twist" and I would highly recommend playing it the combat is so much fun and quite deep.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO WATCH THE ANIME:

Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf is not a direct adaptation of the Garouden novels by Baku Yumemakura (1985 - present). This anime tells an original story that loosely adapts the story arc told in novels 2-7, but told through Juzo Fujimaki's point of view. In the original novels, the main character is Bunshichi Tanba, while Juzo Fujimaki is a rival character to Tanba.

The reason why Juzo is the main character instead of Tanba is because Juzo is considered to be a fan favourite character in Japan.

To anyone interested: the series doesn't mention it, but it is based on the homonym manga of master Jiro Taniguchi. The manga tells you the story of Tanba Bunshichi. I highly recommend it because the drawings and storytellings of taniguchi are sublime to say the least and he is quite unknown in America, meanwhile it is pretty famous in France and Italy (regarding his popularity in the west).
