I think one key detail that you missed here is that it’s not necessarily a binary “this is for food and this is for biofuel” situation. For example, corn based ethanol produces Distillers grains as a byproduct, which can be fed out to cattle and hogs. A lot of the hog and cattle guys I know will actually take a load of that home with them when they sell a load of grain for ethanol. While it may not directly contribute, feeding livestock does still contribute something to the food supply.
