NCAA Division III BenU Lacrosse takes on Trine University on March 16th, 2014

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team took down Trine University 8-7 in double overtime at home on Sunday afternoon.

Trine opened the scoring before Benedictine responded with three straight goals in the first to open a 3-1 lead. Two of the goals came from Stephen Link. The final goal came in the waning moments of the first quarter. Trine tallied three straight in the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead into the half.

Blake Keenan and Link scored to open the third, putting Benedictine back in front in the back and forth affair. Trine scored three of the next four to lead 7-6 late into the fourth. Keenan was able to even the score with just over two minutes left in regulation and in the second overtime Andrew Zmijewski struck to hand Benedictine their third straight win.

Link tallied three goals with Keenan and Zmijewski notching two each. Benedictine tallied 34 shots in the contest. Jeffrey Smitheram stopped 12 in goal. Link and Zmijewski each collected five groundballs.

Benedictine (4-1) travels to Millsaps on Wednesday for a non-conference game in Mississippi. Benedictine has turned around three defeats from last season thus far in 2014. The Eagles have won three consecutive contests, most in school history.
