Dornoch, located in Sutherland, in the Highlands of Scotland only established their whisky festival in the last few years but it has become an immediate hit and is only going to grow in popularity, reputation and attendance.

This annual event is held in October, normally towards the end of the month and includes Tastings, Distillery Tours, amazing menus throughout the town featuring whisky, Balls, Ceilidhs and more. All of this in the company of notable whisky experts.

Like certain other regions of Scotland, Dornoch is blessed with an abundance of very fine single malt whisky distilleries. Dornoch is your perfect location for your whisky tour of this area.

Within close proximity and an easy drive, you will find 6 famous distilleries. Clynelish, Balbair, Glenmorangie, Dalmore, Glen Ord and Old Pulteney.

Right on your doorstep is one of the newest to the whisky scene, The Dornoch Distillery.

At the Dornoch Whisky Festival itself you will find all these distilleries featured and more. With one of the highlights of the festival being the Gala Tasting, where you will be taken on a journey of the great whiskies, in the hands of a notable expert.

For instance, this year the special guest was Charles Maclean, the internationally renowned whisky expert who also starred in the film ‘The Angel’s Share’

Not only will you get a chance to enjoy whisky tastings but also special guided tours of distilleries. Including the likes of Teaninich, which is not normally open to the public.

But this wouldn’t be a scotch whisky festival without sampling some fine Scottish fayre. You will find whisky themed lunches and special dinners led by some of the leading chefs in the area and even a BBQ.

Given that this is a festival in a town renowned for its hospitality, you will also find ceilidhs, traditional and live music festivals. And of course, it wouldn’t be Dornoch without an opportunity to play some golf at one of the world’s greatest golf courses – Royal Dornoch.
