The Hong Kong land is not owned by the government! The vast majority of the land was sold to the 4 richest families in Hong Kong before 1997 by the British? The Monopoly these 4 richest families have over Hong Kong’s property market is pushing up prices. The government has tried to propose to free up 5% of park and green belt land, just 3years ago they planned to flatten mountain on Lantau island to reclaim land from sea but came up against opposition from the rich and powerful.
