As a carpenter so knowing a little bit about wood and wood grains. These boards are chosen because the have a wide and weak pattern grain. On one hand I understand how breaking these boards may Instill a certain amount of confidence in young children. But on the other I feel there must be a better way to do this. I don’t see the point in doing an exercise that will ultimately prove to be futile and pointless.

Martial arts is also a great way to provide those who don't know about woodgrain a false sense of power, and an overlooked teaching if physics. These board and ice block breaking shows have always bothered me as they are misleading to some kids who shortly after break their hands trying it themselves.
