Ford ran out of time developing the sound so they asked the Nascar guys to do it, even as a Mopar guy I like it

That sound is bad ass and from a chevy man giving credit where credit is due

They should NOT have discontinued this engine

I’m not a Mustang fan but that sound alone sounds fierce. I’ve seen a lot of the Mustangs rolling around where I live in Sacramento and they sound like you should try to raise them. The growl is quite the mix of American muscle and that Italian gurgle and roar

one of the best sounding engines ever produced.

Ford was the first of the big 3 to do a V8 with a flat plane crank, with the Voodoo which was developed 10 years ago. Since then they've also launched the Godzilla and in Europe they designed the 3 cylinder fox producing 155hp from 1 litre.

I had the pleasure of driving one ...8000 RPM under your foot is insane ...it just kept climbing !

Riding on top until that mid engine Z06 came out 670hp flat plane crank with a 8600rpm red line and a sweet dual clutch. Personally I would like a manual option. Bonus for the Ford.

I'm not a Ford guy but those Mustangs with that engine absolutely rock!

This engine is impressive. And it makes me realize why my 3rd Gen camaro was so fast in the late 90’s. Most people won’t believe this, and this actually happened by accident, (I know I know…yea right). I built a sbc 383 stroker. Long rod, je pistons. Cam was a 230/244 hyd roller but I had solid rollers on it. The car ran 11.40’s at 122mph and it was my daily driver. On nt555r sucky drag radials. Mini ram intake. Haltech ecm. I shifted at 7800rpm. When I dynoed the car, the operator asked what rpm to cut it off at, I said 7800rpm. He looked at me stupid. He said no way that 383 was pulling that high. He said my tach must be wrong. I told him my data logs in the haltech said it was hitting the limiter at 7880rpm. He made a pull and was astonished. After dialing in the tune, uncorrected it made 447rwhp and 479ftlbs of tq. Peak hp came at 6600rpm but lost only 11 hp from 6600 to 7800. I ended up scattering that motor. The next one I built didn’t quite run the same. Thought bigger heads and bigger cam would do better but didn’t.

I was lucky enough to own one of these for a couple years and I have to say it was just brutal. It seemed like the power band was always just right, you always had a great amount of torque no matter what gear you’re in, and it didn’t handle like any other mustang. It truly was special.

Running a flat plane im my 1600lb sprintcar. It's insane!

I remember having the prototype pistons for that engine and my supervisor was very serious about not scratching them when putting the rings on. And the gaps had to be 100% in the right place according to the blueprints.. very nice pistons

You cannot beat any newer Gen 5.0L Coyote V8 in the Mustang GT as an all around amazing sports car. The other limited edition high end Stangs are just icing on the cake. Ford gets it. Best selling sports car in history!

I remember when ford had us giving customers a ssm saying that it was normal operation for this engine to consume 1qt of oil every 500miles and check the oil at every fueling

Flat plane cranks were first used by Cadillac in 1923. Ferrari used them many decades later.

Piston to wall clearance just a little tight caused the pistons to expand enough to friction weld aluminum to the cylinder walls causing engine failure. Also wonder if at that speed if the water pump is cavitating and surrounding the rear cylinders with bubbles. Causing reduced cylinder cooling. Nascar runs 30 psi cooling system for some reason. But mechanical water pump pressure behind the thermostat is significantly higher. Perhaps a increasing the bypass circuit flow and increasing the back of the block flow into the heads also.

It’s the awesome sound of uncontrollably fish tailin in to a crowd then over correcting across a median and smashing an oncoming car. Go mustang go
