I bet this would be a really cool way for the amateur to do trace gas spectroscopic analysis. Want to see if your experiment is producing xyz gas? Capture a tiny bubble of it and do this while piping the light from the plasma into a cheap couple hundred $ USB spectrometer. Boom. Gas identified. In fact, you may not even need the electronic spectrometer, just use a $20 handheld grating spectrometer you look through and if you're good enough, directly identify the pattern of lines visually.
