What I Wish I Knew Before Swimming 10,000 MILES

1️⃣ It’s all about quality, not quantity. I didn’t get to 10,000 miles by taking it 1,000 miles at a time! A solid 500 meters is better than a sloppy 5,000 meters, especially when you’re building a base.

2️⃣ Find your “why” ...because sometimes that’s all you have. Those swim sessions can get tough mentally. Whether it’s a goal or just realizing that the water is your happy place, figuring this out sooner rather than later is important.

3️⃣ Ask for help sooner rather than later. A good foundation is key to improvement, and the foundation to swimming isn’t cardio or muscle mass - it’s technique! Hiring a coach to fix your technique and give you coaching tips from the beginning will save you a lot of time and pain down the line.

One thing i say as a competitive swimmer is that the more u focus while practising is the better you will swim during a race because if u just swim some crappy 5000m it's of no use cuz u ain't learning nothing

I've swam around 12000 kilometers in around 11 years of competitive swimming but I have definitely swam more than that in my entire life

To start, don't bother with speed or distance, get a good technique and good habits going first. Then worry about pacing.
Edit: Also if you're ever in a 'slump' then go to the pool anyway but don't track what your doing and don't worry abt training. Just do what makes you happy. For me it's swimming underwater and messing abt with flip turns since I don't have them nailed but love doing them.
