Irregular Letter /Sound Combination: Ay/ Ank


The AY sound produces a Long Vowel A sound where the A says its Letter Name and the Y acts as a Silent Vowel to create that Long Vowel A sound. Some words with the Ay sound are: Day, Lay, May, Pay, Ray, and Say.

The ANK sound produces a Long Vowel A sound where the A says its Letter Name blended with the NK ending sound. Some words with the ANK sound are: Bank, Rank, Sank, and Tank.

To practice the Ay and Ank sounds there is a Ay story and a Ank story for your child to read in the Practice Reading Book 3 that correlate with the Ay and Ank words addressed in the video (Practice Reading Book 3 Pages: 32-39).
