They only taught us how to make circles unless your school is different

Everything is good until you accidentally tilt it at a degree angle.

I used them for that all the time as a maintenance mechanic.

I am 74. My dad taught me how to do this when I was 10. I have used it for many crafts and carpentry work my whole life. Thank you dad.

I was apprentice carpenter when I was 19 years old and my first teacher taught me how to use a compass to scribe irregular shapes. 1972. 😊

I’m so glad someone finally figured out a use for them. I kept mine for 50 years just in case.

My uncle did this and scribed in a whole wall that went into an old cobblestone foundation and the wood fit perfectly around all the rounded unique edges. Blew my mind lol

My dad's work is to renovate apartments and he really liked math. He'd always show me how you can use math concepts in his work, those are some precious memories for me haha.

Former brain surgeon here. We used these to scribe circles on patients' heads, but sometimes we would cope crown moldings on patients' heads too.

Used one to do moulding work on our log cabin 20 years ago. Worked great.

Carpenters like myself use them constantly . I use the super scribe. Problem with that scriber is if you don't keep the side against the molding at a perfect 90degrees you don't get a perfect scribe of the profile. That's why the super scribe is the best tool for this type of detail transfer. It has a flat base that doesn't allow it to turn out of square. Also has a built in pencil sharpener too so it's always a crisp scribe.
