Japan said it had destroyed a new medium-lift rocket it launched into space on Tuesday after the vehicle's second-stage engine failed to ignite, in a blow to its efforts to expand access to space and remain competitive in a launch market roiled by Elon Musk's SpaceX.

The 57-metre (187 ft) tall H3 rocket had lifted off from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's (JAXA) Tanegashima space port, following an aborted launch last month. JAXA said it sent a self-destruct signal to the rocket after the engine failure.

Japanese technology peaked in the 90s and then it's been a long downhill slide after its American masters forced it to sign Plaza Accord and transfer its high-end manufacturing to South Korea and Taiwan.

This rocket launch failure simply highlights how Japan of today no longer has the capability to make any breakthroughs in anything tangible. The only pride of Japan today is its anime industry, in a way serving as a PR front which misleads a lot of people around the globe into thinking that Japan is still a technological powerhouse it used to be. Really really sad.

In the case that we do hear of a breakthrough from Japan (say the 600 kph train), don't expect it to go past of just being a shiny prototype (similar to Elon Musk' hyperloop). Japan's highly financialized liberal economy which is highly concentrated in just a few conglomerates disincentivizes new innovations to be put to public use unless they bring enough ROI for the few corporations able to implement them.

More over, the cash-strapped government doesn't have any means to dismantle any legacy systems (be it transportation or telecommunication) to make way for the newest ones. That's why if you go to Japan, you'll find a country seemingly stuck in the 90s. A lot of companies today in Japan even still use fax machines instead of emails. That's how bad it is.

Today cutting edge breakthroughs especially in space technology happen mostly in China, where CNSA gets massive R&D funding from a rich and powerful government. Not to mention a myriad of private companies in China also attempting all kinds of rocket launches of their own.

Japan would be a technological pioneer today if it wasn't a slave to its masters in the US. Sad.

Even North Korea has better rockets than Japan 🚀⭐

The rocket was so ashamed of its failure that it committed harakiri.
