Julia was suffering from essential tremor and went to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore to be treated by their focused ultrasound team. The Let's Go Humans project at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) chronicled Julia's experience.

Just came from Advent health in celebration Orlando Florida for the second side my left hand. After shaking for 50 years I no longer have a tremor in either hand and can do all the things that used to be difficult like soldering drinking eating and like the video it's simply amazing. I didn't want a whole drilled in my head either so when they came out with this procedure and the FDA just approve the second side after the improvement with the first side I had to get the second side done because I noticed how much that side were shaking.

Note that they will only do focused ultrasound on the hand that is shaking the worst. They do not do it on two sides of the brain for both hands. This lady has learned to hide the lesser shaking of her left hand by clenching it in a fist or lacing the fingers of both hands together. (As I well know)

My neurosurgeon at a major medical college failed to look at ordered imaging results for an entire 4 months. Bottom line - I couldn’t have the focus ultrasound surgery. I was informed 1 week prior to the surgery. The excuse for the delay? “Staffing issues” - insinuating interns. I was heartbroken and angry. Unbelievable 4 months of testing and labs. The initial imaging proved I could not safely undergo Focus Ultrasound surgery! The INITIAL imaging 4 months prior to the neurosurgeon’s NP calling. I insisted on the neurosurgeon explaining - pitiful.
But now every 3 months I have 12 to 14 botox injections with positive results. Not 100% but definitely improved for 2-3 months. For hand ET 5 in each arm plus for chin tremors 1 each side of jaw muscle and 2 in chin.
