About Cruel Summer:
From executive producer Jessica Biel (“The Sinner”), “Cruel Summer” is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance. All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America. The series stars Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee and Brooklyn Sudano. “Cruel Summer” comes from studio eOne and was created by Bert V. Royal. Tia Napolitano serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Napolitano, Royal and Iron Ocean Productions’ Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple. Max Winkler directs and executive produces the pilot.

I really liked how this week's episode showed how Martin groomed Kate gradually before the kidnapping, including making her trust him, convincing her that her parents were better off without her. Even in the present, Kate's therapist has to remind her that Martin was never her friend, he was always a predator.

I genuinely don’t think that the scene where Jeanette broke in and stole the snow globe was the big “Jeanette saw me” moment. I think we’ll get that in this episode.

I think Annabelle is the identity that Martin set up for her so they could run away when she turned 18 to a new country. He started calling her Annabelle to get her used to her new identity!!!

I still don’t understand why Jeanette loves sneaky in and out of Martins house and why she’s so obsessed with it

Ok.. it's clear that Mallory is wearing the same jacket that Jeanette was wearing when she broke into Martin's house at 0:12
So my theory is Malloy went to Martin's house for unknown reason and and she saw kate.. and kate saw her but she thought her jeanette :)
In that case both jeanette and kate are honest.
God.. the show is amazing

As for what’s going on with the whole Kate/Jeanette thing, this is how I think it went down:

I think we can assume that the scene in this teaser where Mallory says to Jeannette “you’ve been sneaking into that house this entire time?”, is Jeanette giving her the snow globe as a peace offering. You can see that Jeanette has curly hair. Mallory isn’t having any of it. She looks angry. She’s not ready to make up. Mallory decides to return the snow globe. She rides her bike to Martin’s house, snow globe in hand, hoping to get Jeanette in trouble. Kate, on her tippy toes, looking out of the basement window, see’s Mallory’s bike and thinks it’s Jeanette’s (because Kate saw Mallory and Jeanette riding each other’s bikes after the shaving cream incident during the summer). As Mallory is walking up to the house, Kate knocks on the window but doesn’t say anything as to not alert Martin. Mallory goes in to take a closer look. She locks eyes with a frantic looking person, but can’t tell who it is. She gets scared, turns around, gets on her bike and rides off with the snow globe. Kate assumes it was Jeanette. Mallory doesn’t know what to think until it comes out that Martin had kidnapped Kate. That’s why she befriends her. That’s why she kept the snow globe. That’s why she has it hidden under her bed, that’s why she was looking at it the way she was and that’s why Kate and Jeanette are so sure about their stories.

As for Annabelle, I see it like this:

Annabelle is either Kate’s new identity or it’s the gun that Martin’s father used to kill himself. I’m leaning towards the former, but I wouldn’t be surprised by the latter. If it is Kate’s new identity, I’d bet good money that, when they were deciding on where to run away to (before Kate was in the basement), they chose Italy.

I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I knew there was something fishy about Kate story

I knew kate was lying the whole time but how she blamed Jeanette was horrible. Kate left the house and she chose to come back to him.
Jeanette just needs to say that she went over there to steal, hes dead now. not like she can get charged for theft.

it's ironic they're closing out the season just a few days before the first day of summer but regardless i'm looking forward to seeing how it all ends

Mallory isn’t gonna flip on Kate. Annabelle is probably a gun.

Literally all Kate had to do was go home the next day when the guy left to work at school 🤦‍♀️ he even said I'll see you at school 😫 she could have said she walked around all night or told a friend to lie for her it never had to get this far 🤦‍♀️

So excited for next week but so sad the season is over. I hope there will be a season 2

From what I get out of it, both of them are innocent. Jeanette didn't see Kate but Kate assume she saw her, so in a way Kate is lying but doesn't know she's lying? Basically the both of them are innocent.

I can't even believe it was Malerie crazy ending

Jeanette tells Mallory she's been sneaking into the house, Mallory for whatever reason is upset about this, and she sneaks in, while Kate confuses Mallory for Jeanette. It could explain Mal's guilty conscience in one sense, but why be so vindictive and hateful towards Jeanette?

Man, look…they’re gonna drag this and we won’t get an answer until season two, *if* there is one. Also, I feel like Annabelle is the gun and he tells her to shoot him.

If they are gonna do a season 2, It should be from Martin's viewpoint because he passed. It can tell his childhood and on why was he like that today. It can answer some questions like was kate the only one?! When exactly did they start to get intimate? (It shows us after they got intimate) Why did he transfer schools? Was that girl telling the truth about him on the news? Did his father really commit suicide? Why he has no contact with his family? Why did he drive all that way just for a girl? Did he know the girl? Why is he living by himself into a town that nobody really knows him? Did he try to get anybody else's kid while Kate was living with him? (Dude has a lot of meetings at night) That could work

Bonus: Season 3 can be about why Kate and Jeanette's mom aint cool with each other
