Rebecca Pearson once had a difficult pregnancy with triplets. The resulting births occurred on the same day as her husband Jack Pearson's thirty-sixth birthday. The lives of Rebecca, Jack and their three offspring - Kevin, Kate and Randall - are presented at different points in time. The Rebecca and Jack stories generally take place during the early stage of their marriage, surrounding the birth of the three children or at different phases of the children's upbringing, which was not always smooth sailing for any of the five. As someone who lost their father growing up and watching what that did to my mom… “he’s the only one who didn’t move away and leave me when his father died” absolutely slaughtered me. You can blame her all you want for saying “he was easier” but it also sounds like he was the only child who actually wanted the relationship with his mom that every parent wants with their child. So yeah, they have a tighter bond and she probably favors him. When one kid actually visits regularly and takes care of the family and the other only shows up out of obligation on holiday, the one that’s happy to be there will be favored. And I say all this as the kid who did move out and run away for years. It took a long time to understand that as an adult especially, relationships aren’t one way.

I am the youngest child. I have an older brother who is 26 and an older sister who is 23. I am 22. My parents made sure to spend equal time with all of us, and treated us equally. My parents made sure to make the punishment fit the wrong action we did. My brother is blind so it was a little different for him, but he still got disciplined when necessary. I was diagnosed with autism at 12 years old, but I still got disciplined when necessary. My sister was the only normal one but even she would get into trouble sometimes. I'm glad I wasn't in a household where one was favored over the other. If that were the case I would have moved out ages ago.

Younger siblings are always favored because the first child is the “I have no idea what the hell I’m doing as a parent” child, me and my parents fought all the time and truth be told they favored my perfect square of a brother over me but as I got older matured and gained perspective I realized that I was not a great child to raise and they didn’t know what they were doing or what to expect from me, something they were prepared for with my brother

Thank you for all your very kind and constructive comments my friends, firstly the only thing I know about this show is this single short so all I saw was the title, saying that the one kid is the younger brother, secondly I apologize for using the apparently heated word “always”, I made a generalization based on my own experiences and those of the people I know, thirdly I love my family and am very aware of my own failures and mistakes as a child being raised by (at the time) a single mother, I was the black sheep of the entire family and the one who got into trouble, my brother is 100% the very definition of a square but he is the smartest little dude I’ve ever met and he will 100% go farther in life than I ever will, me being the example of a “bad child” was what led to him being the golden child and as I said he will go farther in life than I ever could, and I’m so happy and proud of him, thanks again for all the very kind and thoughtful comments about my very limited personal experiences as an older child 😂🤙

People commenting on this have never watched the show I can tell, Rebecca loved all of them equally but Randall also loved his mom back, Kevin got to be a teenaged white boy, he rebelled and was angsty, and at some point didn't like his mom but she never stopped trying to be there for him, Randall couldn't do none of that coz he needed to be a man or otherwise his mom would fall apart, when their father died Randall was the closest thing to a support system that Rebecca had, he picked up the slack and he still didn't resent his mother, he just continued to support her. Kevin wanted things to always go his way but he was wrong 90% of the time but didn't want to be told he was, Rebecca and Jack were good parents and loved all of their children but Randall could not afford to act the same way as Kevin, so he didn't, he was a good understanding boy all his life, Rebecca is right he was easy, but that's not a good thing either coz unlike Kevin he never truly got to be kid, he was a stellar scholar and joined the football team to be closer to his brother who didn't like him. Kevin played victim all through out the show and blamed Randall for his bad relationship with his mom but all Randall did was love the woman who loved him unconditionally when no one else would. Rebecca was not a bad mother, she could've done better but she was not a bad mother and she loved her kids equally, the only difference is Randall welcomed that love coz he was adopted and could not afford to act out like Kate or Kevin.
