Saw you on Today mate and its HILERIOUS!! keep up the good work. A simple sentence to say yet so hard to pronounce goes to show how unique our accent really is. I don't know about you but I always wondered why American, the English have bent accents whilst our Aussie accent is just darn straight and is pretty easy to understand. I saw a show in America where they interviewed an Aussie and they used subtitles Anyway, was fun watching this.

My first time in LA, I arrived at my hotel and asked the concierge to call me a cab (was headed to see a band play) - I asked for half an hour and when I came down to the lobby, a cabby outside was barking his horn - I said to the concierge 'Has old mate got the shits?' (in what I was told was a very thick Aussie accent) got a confused stare back... to which I replied 'Sorry, is the cab driver upset that he has had to wait' - concierge pissed himself laughing saying he had no idea what the fuck I was saying hahaha :-)

If you do this around the western suburbs of Sydney, you'll get the same reactions.

To British, Kiwi and Aussie folk the accents are very different because we speak them personally and in nations like England we can tell the exact town or city someone comes from based on their accent. To the outside world we all sound the same with some form of Anglo accent. British people get called Australian, Aussies get called British and I've even seen a Kiwi get called Welsh.
