Neo-liberalism isn't only a nightmare, it's just regular Capitalism in action.

This is gonna be real confusing for Americans who think "liberal" is a catchall term for all things leftist, including communism.

7:46 Keep in mind, the 40% impoverished in Chile is based on Chile's standard which does not take costs of living into account hence why it decreased after Pinochet. In other words, actual poverty may had been even worse.

If you gotta explain it in layman terms to the average person, neoliberalism is pretty much the same as "libertarianism", but instead of erasing regulations by shrinking the govt, you erase regulations by USING the govt to do it instead - either way the outcome is the same: a hellish nightmare of lawless corporate hegemony even worse than what we face today.

Needs a warning does this video - 'contains images of Thatcher'. I'll have nightmares now.

My PTSD is so triggered by the images of Thatcher. 😱. Just let it be known around the world that large numbers of people in UK fought Thatchers forces in the streets and mines. Sadly we didn't win and save the world.

If you think the logic of "competition everywhere" and "when you lose at the market it's your own fault" to its final conclusion, you arrive at the implication that all disabled and chronically ill people should be left to starve.

The longer Marget Thatcher and the Regan's Graves aren't reclassified as public toilets and graffiti zones, the more angry we should be.

everytime i hear about something Reagan did i hate him even more and like, i already despise him. The number of atrocious policies that passed while he was in office is unbelieveable

as a Ghanaian, I'm so glad you brought that up. The issues also run deeper. Our governments attraction to the idealistic world of capitalism that the western bourgeoisie has "attained" on the backs of the working class people is pretty much being recreated at home. The predatory loans by the IMF has lead to the loss of control of indigenous companies (ECG) to imperialist forces. We see more and more private corporations being setup and run by non-Ghanaians as a result of our inability to repay such loans (taking advantage of poor economic conditions and cheap labour). Unemployment is a big issue, lower standards of living, a widening gap between rich and the poor. The country that gained independence in 1957 and was hoping to move towards socialism under Kwame Nkrumah is unrecognizable. Atm, it's sad being a Ghanaian.

Something that was a very big topic in my country was that just in 2021 our public transportation stopped using cash and started to have a electronic card where you have to pay with a pre-paid card instead of cash, and private public transportation used it to inflate the amount of tickets sold by passing cards many times so it looks like more people are using the bus because more passengers mean more subsidiaries, in the world that capitalist defneders love, companies would put more busses in circulation to sell more tickets but instead they opt to keep us in crammed busses and just inflate the numbers and screw us over

I had forgotten to water the thatcher's grave with my urine this month. This video was a great reminder. Thanks Hakeem!

12:02 you know, I used to think that people weren't really this extreme and thinking about the individual being responsible for their personal failings under capitalism, and then I met a homeless guy who thought that he was better than other almost people because he lives in a van instead of a shelter and he quit heroin cold turkey, so he thought that all other homeless people we're failures he didn't have any right to live unless they tried to do what he did (he's still homeless, and he also could have died because the physical symptoms of quitting heroin cold turkey are absolutely horrific)

As someone who lived through the Thatcher years and saw those policies being carried out in real time and now having to live with the consequences, I can say this video is spot on. There are a number of crises in this country housing, NHS and transport for example that have a direct path back to those policies. I remember her saying "There is no such thing as society". It was all about individualism and you achieving on your own merit meanwhile they deliberately destroyed whole industries to weaken the unions and their base in this country. Wages are so low that even doctors and nurses are forced to use food banks and are going on strike. The Government response - we will ban strikes!

"Taxation is relatively insignificant compared to the surplus value extracted out of you each working day." Yes. This needs to be repeated A LOT.

My older brother and I were raised in a single parent household in the 1960's. I graduated HS in 1979. Ours was the last generation preceding the shift into Neoliberalism that began in 1980 the year Reagan and Republicans implemented neoliberal "trickle down" class warfare economics that have resulted in making the rich richer and the middle class and poor poorer. Before neoliberalism the salary and benefits of a single middle class family breadwinner were sufficient to own a modest house, a car, food, health insurance and have a little left over to set aside in a savings account for an emergency or retirement.

None the less, Reagan and Republicans ignored the past history of neoliberalisms proven failure by winding the clock back to the 1920's before the last time neoliberalism failure had led to the Great Depression. Consequently anti-trust laws were ignored allowing Wall St. to consolidate every major industry into monopolies and cartels that corruptly manipulate markets and gov't with a pay $ to play election system and outsource millions of American manufacturing jobs to third world sweat shops. Ronald Reagan and Republican's neoliberalism policies created the Rust Belt. But due to political propaganda based on revisionist history of a mythical past many working class Americans still haven't figured that out. Instead they participate in class warfare on themselves by voting for Republicans largely due white culture war identity politics based on race, gender and religion.

Fun fact: Unemployment reached *13%* under Thatcher (from 5% when she took over).

Faced with that, she then "redefined" unemployment - to bring the figure down to 9.5%.
