Are security groups only for giving folder permissions or can they be used to apply a group policy

Hi Robert,
By default all new created users are member of domain users group.
When create a new user then I have to add the same user to our created global security group every time.
Let's say, I have a security group name 'xyz'.
If I create a user then the new created user should be a member of xyz group by default.
Is there a way to make a default global security group for new created users?

I have a group of users that I set up to access a specific shared folder only.
I removed everybody from shared and security tabs, then I added the group to shared and security tabs with full access.
When I test access, I get an error message with access deny.
Any ideas?
