My father and mother always played Mr.Sandman when I was a kid in the 1960s. I still have many of their records, including Mr. Sandman.

This is one of those songs which epitomizes the 1950's but remains a timeless hit that every generation seems to know and love. One of the biggest records of the '50's, "Mr. Sandman"! Thank you so much for posting this! This was the very first chart record for the Chordettes and it went all the way to number one. Written by Pat Ballard. I had always thought their version was the first, but Vaughn Monroe recorded it earlier in the year, but his version was released as a B-side and didn't have the same unforgettable harmonies and arrangement. Of course, the Chordettes had impeccable barbershop harmonies and were perfectly suited for the song. Their record has been featured in many movies such as "Uncle Buck", but strangely enough, it was a competing version by the Four Aces which was featured in "Back to the Future" at the start of Marty's journey to the '50's. Their version was also a Top 10 hit even though it was competing with the Chordettes record, so that shows you how popular the song was. Emmylou Harris released a successful remake of the song in 1981. Thanks again for this fantastic video of a great song!

Awesome. Sullivan mentions "Ray Bloch" at the end. He was the orchestra conductor for the Ed Sullivan Show.

This damn song's been living rent free in my head for a few days now. It's corny as hell, yes, but also so easy on the ears. No wonder it made it to the top of the charts.
This is... live, right? Sure doesn't sound like the studio version I'm familiar with and it's missing the backing vocals they couldn't have done live without some background singers.

I wasn't expecting the YES to be delivered like he was loudly irritated with the ladies.

Did anyone else think of Blanche, Dorothy and Rose singing this song to a baby trying to lull it to sleep?
