Показать описание
80s rock stars then and now Tears for Fears transition edit. *THEN* - Tears for Fears released their number one 80s music hit single “Shout” in 1984 when co-founders and co-lead vocalists Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were both only 23 years old. *NOW* - both Orzabal and Smith are 62 years old in 2023. *THEN* - Orzabal and Smith co-founded Tears for Fears in 1981. The band then split up in 1991 due to creative and personal differences. Orzabal led Tears for Fears without Smith, releasing 2 albums. Orzabal and Smith reunited in 2000 after not speaking for 9 years. *THEN* Shout was their second #1 hit after Everybody Wants to Rule the World. *NOW* - In 2020 Tears for Fears released their 7th album “The Tipping Point” which is the work of middle-aged survivors influenced by therapy and loss, including the loss of Orzabal's wife of 35 years in 2017. *THEN* - Shout was meant to inspire people to protest and to let out “things I can do without.” *NOW* They are currently touring in 2023 and have sold over 30 million albums worldwide.
Tears for Fears - Shout would become one of the most successful songs of 1985. It was released as their second single on their second album, “Songs from the Big Chair;” an album inspired by the film “Sybil” about a woman suffering from multiple personalities undergoing psychotherapy. The song’s lyrics were influenced by American Psychologist Arthur Janov’s school of Primal Scream Therapy. Even the band’s name comes from Janov’s book, “Prisoner of Pain.” It was written by co-lead vocalist Roland Orzabal and keyboard player Ian Stanley. In the liner notes to the single, Orzabal explained: "The song was written in my front room on just a small synthesizer and a drum machine. Initially I only had the chorus, which was very repetitive, like a mantra. I played it to Ian Stanley, our keyboardist, and Chris Hughes, the producer. I saw it as a good album track, but they were convinced it would be a hit around the world."
