He took off running as soon as the ball left the bat, that is why he made it home without it even being close.
This should be a lesson to ALL MLB players out there, hustle pays off.
I am so tired of seeing players just jog down to first and wait to see where the ball goes or
worse, stand at home admiring their fly thinking it might be a homerun, then only to see it bounce off the
wall and they barely make it to second base or held to a long single.
