My friend was a very prominent shiny cloner in the X and Y days. He ended up giving me spare clones when he made too many. I headcanoned it as me running a foster home for the creations of a mad scientist

That smeargle transform glitch isnt the first time tranform has even done that. In the Gen 1 games, if a ditto uses transform twice through your pokemon mimicking the transform, the ditto will now become your pokemon just like the smeargle

I did the smeargle glitch because i wanted a photo of all 4 ogerpon at once, but something interesting I learned is that all except the base ogerpon could be cloned, every time i tried the teal mask, it would show the signs that the cloning worked before the clone disappeared anyway, despite this, all the others were perfectly fine with it.

After it was patched I noticed they had just made wild smeargle unable to use transform after its sketched.

The Battle Frontier cloning glitch can also clone just items, give items to Pokémon in your PC, save withdraw the itemsand do the glitch. You can clone over 100 items per reset that way!

A fun one with the GSC games, if you move a Pokemon to another box and turn the game off immediately after saving from it, that Pokemon gets cloned.

Another stupidly simple one not mentioned but was patched: the BDSP cloning glitch. Required moving pokemon through some boxes and the daycare.

When I was younger and found out about the Pokemon Emerald clone glitch, I knew this would be the beginning of my personal clone army.

A similar thing from Emerald happens in Gen 2 but only in GS. Save before depositing a pokemon (can also have an item) in a box. Then change the box. Once the “saving do not turn off” message pops up, turn off the game. Then when you reboot, you have a cloned pokemon. Did this to get infinite rare candies because that level curve is ass

I read this as clothing glitches and, suffice to say, I got REALLY confused quickly.

The smeargle one didn't actually get patched. They just made Smeargle unable to use transform while in a wild pokemon battle.

I would clone items whole boxes at a time in emerald and send them up to newer games. Was soooo helpful

Gen 8 had missigno being the ultimate ditto on the daycare
