Hey guys - I’m the mug that made this video! Who’s your favourite Doctor? Mine’s the Raggedy Man himself, Matt Smith, but I’m also partial to a bit of Tennant!

You forgot the single most important thing about Doctor Who: the Doctor solves the most terrible situations in the universe not with guns, or brawn or force. The Doctor saves the day with only two things: compassion and intelligence. This sets the Doctor apart from every other science fiction, well, superhero. The Doctor doesn't kill, but he may find a way to have deadly foes destroy themselves... if they cannot be reasoned with. And if they can be reasoned with, the Doctor finds a way for the greatest good to be done. The Doctor is never bigoted, or narrow, or cruel. The Doctor is all about reason solving all problems. Reason, rather than violence. Reason, and compassion.

There is no show in the world quite like Doctor Who.

I'd recommend starting either with series 1, series 5, or series 10. They are the best jumping in points. Classic who is absolutely brilliant and many of the best episodes are classics, but it's a bit more complicated and they can be harder to find, so I'd recommend going back to them after you've finished new-who. (Don't worry about the order of classic stories, you can watch them in any order as they are fairly standalone.)

Don't skip 9 like all the hipsters would tell you to do. 9 is one of the best doctors even though he's only got one season. 90% of season 1 is great and Christopher Eccleston did a fantastic job. If you want to skip one of the best series' of new who then go ahead but you'll miss out on some absolute classics like 'dalek' (second best dalek story of all time) and 'the empty child' which is straight up horror.

Only the slitheen story leaves something to be desired but the rest is fantastic. Seriously, start with 'rose'.

I feel disrespected that he said you can skip ahead of 9. You got me messed up. If you skip 9 your mad disrespectful

Doctor Who is a perfect blend of Science fiction and Fantasy genre, mixing intellectual logical science with magical emotion and faith. The Doctor is essentially a Sci-Fi Alien Wizard. The best of both worlds of nerdom, the Star Trek and the Star Wars.

I would argue that a new companion is an easier starting point than a regeneration with an carry-over companion.

I've been a Whovian for 11 years now. I started at David Tennant as he was the current Doctor at the time, then checked out Christopher Eccleston before I then started checking out Classic Who with Tom Baker (who became my favourite Doctor with Tennant as my second favourite). And then I checked out all the other Doctors too.

6:08 That's what I've been doing these last 8 months and finished watching just the other day. Obviously I watched reconstructions of the 97 missing episodes from the 60s. They were either the official animations or the unofficial Loose Cannon recons involving surviving footage and still pictures with the complete soundtracks.

If you want to start Doctor Who, I recommend ‘Spearhead from Space’

Despite being a Whovian for the last decade or so, your video had the perfect components one should look for. I've tried to get a LOT of my friends to watch the show, but none truly understood why the show is so Beloved. I'll defiantly use the video as my last resort, if this doesn't work I don't know what will.

Thank you for the succinct explanation; I have wanted to watch the series in a comprehensive manner for almost 15 years but did not have an Idea where I should begin. Now I will comfortably choose a period with which I may familiarize myself.

Neat video!! I think I'll use this from now on, at least at some point, when introducing new people to Doctor Who. It's far more concise than my dorky rambling could manage to be and yet successfully captures the essence of its story and appeal! Nails almost all the points made for me. Could be a little more sonic. ;D
