I'm from Russia, from the Urals. My city is average by Russian standards (500, 000 population), and if people look at black people in such cities or less, it's only because blacks are seen only in the movies. So if some Russian is staring at you, it's only because he/she sees a dude with a different skin for the first time.
There are a lot of Asians in Russia, this is not a novelty, but black people are really exotic, so don't think anything bad when you come to Russia :)
