I agree with you about the ring on the end of the pen. That would drive me nuts very quickly.

This pen takes Pilot G2 refill, the old version takes only Parker style refill.

Thanks, James! Remove that ring and take it to Mount Doom where it was forged. I appreciate this review as I've seen these pens, like the price, etc., hmmm... maybe, no hurry. The holes are not for me--guess it keeps weight down a bit.

those holes on the body are not for me but that clicking mechanism is so cool! great review!

God bless you James, not a fan myself, but its up somebody's alley!

I bet replacing that Keychain loop with a small paracord loop would give you the same functionality without the annoyance.

An excellent review and great content. Thanks for another amazing review of another EDC quick grab. Unfortunately for this pen I would compare it to the original limited edition which I would almost certainly go back and buy even off of eBay as long as it was new. The more expensive body came with a superior grip a large grip with/diameter, and was really one of my top 3 cheap pen bodies of all time. It was beyond comfortable to hold for long periods of time and write for with up to 50 minutes of straight writing. As much as I love G2 cartridges I don't think I would put a G2 really in any other pen body except that one.

Not exactly my cup of Darjeeling but... You are still James! As for "tinker-ability", I prefer the many different mechanisms of the fountain pen. To each his own... still a nice looking pen!

An optional clip would be nice. Thanks

Smootherpro has some other choices available (round rather than hexagonal) in other metals for slightly less cost, but more importantly (to me, anyway) have a clip instead of a ring-top. That ring-top is good if you want to "tether" the pen to something, but it's not for pocket carrying IMHO.

Can this be a substitute for a tactical pen?

There is a more smooth, hole-free, clipped version. Circumlocutory unbranded as "Handmade Press Type Brass Spring Retro Copper Hexagonal Pen. Pen body h65 Brass, stainless steel clip (surface plating is brass)". The famous Bobby used to sell these things on ebay for peanuts.

Thanks for reviewing pens that are not fountain pens. While I am not a fan of brass due to weight and patina, it is a very interesting pen. I have started to use G2 refills for my rollerball. Used to use Schmidt refills exclusively but being left handed I used to smear the ink, depending on the paper. Thanks again for the review.

Kinda reminds me of those pens you used to see at the bank or post office that had the chain on them. This is just the upgraded version. Love your videos, keep them coming!👍

I am getting a smootherpro solid brass bolt action pen with glass breaker on the back end, not that ring on it. I like multipurpose for my tools. It is only $18 on Amazon (U.S.) at the moment. Brass is antiviral and antimicrobial.

You asked what to call the holes at about the 6:20 mark in this video. I would just call it "Blessed". My reasoning is that it is "Holey" LoL

Definitely a viable cheap bolt action compared to the high end ones by Big Design
however is it pentel energel compatible, thats the standard now for gel usage.
