In the Linux Crash Course series, we'll go over one important foundational Linux topic each episode. This series includes tutorials, demonstrations, and more! In this episode, the head and tail commands are both covered. These commands enable you to view the first and last ten lines of a file. But there's also some additional functionality that we'll explore in this video as well.

I have been loving these videos more and more, they are an incredibly concise and useful reference for a beginner like me. Command line ultilities are becoming such a familiar thing: I keep wondering just how much can be accomplished with just a handful of well directed input/output streams. I can't wait for more!

This sums up all of customer service.

For Fedora users. There's 'messages' file log instead 'syslog' in our distro. Just thought it'd be helpful.

Outstanding video as always! I've used the basic head/tail command in the past, but was not aware of the -f option. I also learned about the syslog and auth.log files. Thanks for all of that!

Thank you, Mr. Jay. Now I want to buy a Linux laptop. I probably could use the head and tail command on my MacBook, but I like to tinker.

thanks for making this. i just setup foreman and it was terrible but i learned a lot. you content was an amazing help. please dont stop. i just started my linux journey about 7-8 months ago and i reaaaally love linux. but its also different and terminals can suck (sometimes i just wanna code). I need some sort of guideline about what to learn, because sometimes it can get sooo overwelming, for example when i couldnt get k8s to run because i didnt had a static hostname and it created new nodes everytime i booted my machine. and i have not even started to learn :D

Great Content. It will be useful if you can make a video only explaining the most important log files for different services in Ubuntu. It will be awesome for solving problems.

That was interesting, used Linux for around 10 years and never knew of head command. Not sure how useful it is though. The multiple pipe option is useful.

I have a question on the 'lines'.

Are those lines an established permanent length or can 1 'line' go on-&-on?
