Not blue, doesn't taste like ice cream. The internet nails it again.

"I'm gonna just open it from the center." Punk rock.

For those of you coming here in the future, when this video was posted a 5 pound box of bananas from Miami Fruit was $27. As of today, a 3 pound box is now $97.

Jared: *opens banana from top*
People: you're opening it wrong
Jared: *opens banana from the centre like an absolute madlad*

Thank you Jared! I sell these plants and I'm SO tired of having to explain this to people. So many people assert that they are NOT blue java because they are not as blue as the pictures from the internet. Yes they are kind of blue when they are unripe, and if the light hits them just right, late in their development, but before they ripen, they can be very blue, but not at all like what the pictures on eBay and Amazon show. After eating hundreds of these at various stages of ripeness, I get what people mean when they say they taste like ice cream. They are more creamy than they are vanilla flavored, IMHO. I wouldn't say they taste like vanilla ice cream, but I get what they mean. I WILL be referring people to this video, though. Thanks again.

Lived in Java half my life, have had lots of those. We call them Pisang Raja (King Banana). But we've never identified them as blue bananas.

That white stuff on the outside is likely what's called a glaucous bloom. It's a waxy coating that helps to protect the plant. It's what's responsible for giving blue spruce its famous bluish color, and you can also see a glaucous bloom on the outside of grapes

I'm just impressed and glad that we live in a world that allows us to see a random dude online, giving an honest and in-depth review of a specific banana, that lasts over 8 minutes, which I watched entirely btw.
Also extra points for ripping the thing open like an absolut madlad.

The only fruit I’ve found that taste remarkably similar to how it’s advertised is the cotton candy grapes. Don’t know when they’re in season but I bought a box from Sams and it does indeed taste like cotton candy. One of my favorite fruits.

It’s easy to forget (for me, admittedly) that YouTube is about channels like yours. Thanks for curating it and delivering content like this.

I also open bananas from the side. It allows the peel to be reclosable, which is useful when feeding small children.

The peel is interesting. I noticed that along the "seams" of the peel, it looked like "stitches". Like different peels put together.

Nice vid. Like to see people debunking myths, and you're especially good at describing it.

These bananas make the best banana splits. The texture and creaminess compliments vanilla ice cream perfectly.

I wish these better types of banana were easier to find in the west, I swear that cavendish bananas taste worse every year and I'm pretty tired of them. Never seen any other variety for sale though, Java should export more!

So it looks blue the same way that blue agave is "blue"?

I’m on Maui right now and they have an “Apple banana” here that is pretty unusual. It doesn’t have any of the traditional banana flavor (at least the ones I’ve tried) but does taste a little like a tart apple. Pretty cool how much variety there is with bananas!

Geez, I’ve been waiting for my order of blue java bananas since 2018. I see Miami fruit has no problem sending free fruit to advertise, even when paying customers have been waiting so long.
I don’t feel so good about Miami fruit anymore. This makes it look like they don’t value customers much, and I’ve spent hundreds of dollars ordering from them.
I’m glad you got to try them.
Miami fruit, if you see this, totally makes me angry you haven’t sent my order that I paid for.
Edited to add: I’m also waiting for ice cream beans I ordered even longer ago than the bananas, and I know they sent those to you to review, too already-some time ago. So wrong.

I have ice cream bananas in my yard on Guam. They came with the house 20 years ago. They are a truly wonderful fruit. When a stalk of 75 to 100 all come ripe within 7 to 10 days, I give away what I can and freeze the rest for smoothies and baking. So delicious!
