Honestly i think sunflowera are ok; its not a melee challenge its a no ranged plants challenge

The strongest offensive plant in this game is literally a meelee plant (pokra & Ice shroom)

in my opinion, plants that need to be eaten (sunbean, hynposhoom, etc) are fair game as they work by the same logic that potato mine, been no able to "attack" unless they are in range

When you get to sun producing levels, the toadstool and/or sun bean should both fit the challenge while getting you through.

Awesome video! I think the best way to go about premiums/gemiums/seediums is to only use them if you can't beat the level without them, just more entertaining to watch that way, at least for me
