With the release of the already hugely popular DS920+, DS720+, DS420+ and DS220+ NAS Drive from Synology, it is worth highlighting that is one of the most proficient and powerful network storage devices for home and small business users of 2020. Despite this popularity, for many users, the Synology diskstation is likely to be their first real experience of a NAS drive and despite its similarity to a desktop computer, the setup and use of a Synology NAS and DSM (diskstation manager) may be a little intimidating. Fear not, as it’s actually really user-friendly and I’ve created a whole bunch of guides to help you get to grips with your new piece of hardware. Just a couple of things that might help others:
- For an initial setup, you need to be using the internal IP, not a vHost address.
- If your router does not have the port configured you will not connect at all to plex

For anyone who finds their Plex Movies folder empty in Plex this might help. In Synology Control Panel > Shared Folder > Edit (Plex folder) > Permissions > System Internal User (in drop down box) > give PlexMediaServer read/write permission.

After the new update my photo folder don't work. I can see that plex media server has disapperared in the folders allow-section

Thank you for the great video. I just got a ds220+ and trying to set up plex. Don't if you know how but do you know how to find another NAS that is on the network in my plex server? I can see it on my laptop but can't find it when trying to add it to my PLEX library. Any help would be apprecitaed.

hi..i used to used my synology ds718+ a year ago..i stop using it for 8month and forgot how to login into it now..do i log into quickconnect in my pc? or is there another way..when i log into pc with quickconnect i notice if i upload 1gb of video file it took forever..while before i used to used it it would only take 40 sec..I think i am login it wrong..what did i do wrong.. sorry it been awhile i cant remember how to use it.

Great video. One thing I've had trouble understanding. I've heard people talk about putting metadata on a separate SSD drive when using a PC for their Plex server. Is there a way to do this with a Synology NAS? I assume it would eat up a drive bay and not be worth it, thoughts?

I have Plex server on my synology NAS but I when I changed my hard drives from 7200 RPM to 5400 RPM and reinstalling everything. I can not setup the plex server on my Synology NAS. Do you know what might be the issues? I am not sure what happened.

Hello, excellent video. I do have a problem. I have a Synology 920+ and when I run my movies and shows from inside my network, everything runs perfectly fine. However, from outside my network, my videos freeze or are extremely pixelated. I have reinstalled the Plex Server numerous times, I have replaced hard drives numerous times. I am honestly at wits end.
