These are some great tips, and I'm already using some of them.
My protip is to make Tasker activate GPS when you are opening apps that you know needs GPS, and deactivate it again when you close the app.

I don't own a Nexus 5 but I use most of those tips for my SGS 4, esp. the brightness and vibration. Great battery saving tips!

On my note 2, bluetooth is on all the time, wifi is turned on everytime i use maps, waze or any driving app, brightness is set to auto, i listen to music all day, and i still manage to get a full day out of it ^^

Nice video but you should clarify that you are using a custom rom and thats also why you are using a custom kernel. Stock rom will not have some of the options you mentioned and people could get confused.

Also instead of wasting time constantly adjusting brightness, but not using the overly bright autobrightness which pings the light sensor constantly
Use a program called Lux Auto Brightness.
You can configure it many ways, I myself have it only check the light when I turn the screen on, and you can over time set it up to pick the brightness you want in different lighting conditions.
It drastically improves the battery life and stops you from having to constantly play with brightness.

The best battery saving tip I have done is turn the phone off. It really saves a tonne of battery. I have had the battery last over two weeks with the phone off. I just turn it on when I want to use it.

this is why i love my moto x, battery is never an issue. Never have to turn off any features to make it through a day. Either phones need to do more optimizations like moto, or throw in bigger batteries. Because as long as they keep getting more power hungry processors and screens the battery life will always suffer. Good job on moto for giving us a fast phone that uses only what it needs.

Couple More battery saving tips:
1) Use greenify!!! (if you have root): this app puts apps into a "hibernation" mode so that they dont keep activating wakelocks and draining battery when the screen is off
2) Turn off location reporting
3) turn of touch sound and lock screen sounds (these cause massive wakelocks on some devices)
4) Use n3o hammer kernel (more battery effiecent but also less smooth than franco- this is only applicable to rooted nexus 5 users)

Quite useful battery savings tips for the Nexus 5. (Kitkat in general)
If you're not that familiar with how settings in your phone are set or can be changed, this will definitely be something for you. ;-)

for brightness there's an app called Lux Iite which let's you configure brightness levels for different ambient light settings. You can set the refresh rate to various degrees or whenever you unlock the phone. It can also be done completely manually, you hit the refresh button and it automatically adjusts according to your settings. I suggest you check it out.

armando, as usual, you´re one of the few who don´t waste my time.
i actually got some useful and - above all - NEW tricks on battery saving.
what i really would like though (and i think, i´m not the only one), is a walkthrough of how to install a custom kernel and what to watch out for doing it.
rooting (at least the nexus line) has grown more and more easy. so even i could do it without a sweat.
so this would be a nice thing to see.
anyways, great work and whatever you do next - i´m looking forward to it.

I have some tips. So I'm not a very hi-tech, which means I dont need every sync running on my phone. So I turn off all google sync, except gmail and keep, because I use that app often. Then because I dont use Google+, so I turn it off, uninstall update, and disable it. Also dont forget to turn off google+ sync. Thats really make a lot different.
Change mobile network mode, that really important. On my country, there is no 4G network yet, so I choose 3G connection only.
Turn back up & reset, it also reduce lag for mid-low end phone

It might be worth pointing out too that if you need a quick charge its better to power the phone down, which apparently speeds the charging process up.

Best battery saving tip so far IMO is rooting your nexus 5 which is easier than preparing Mac and cheese, download Franco kernel updater which is a free app, flash the kernel and underclock your nexus to 300mhz to 1.2 or 1.5 GHz. For me onscreen time is 8 hours and standby time well less than 1℅loss in 1 hour.
