Who's had a putter fitting, what was the experience like?

The older and cheaper the putter, the better. Gives me a bit more credibility when I blame 3(Or 4… Or 5…..) putts on the club.

As an amateur, I've improved my driver swing, and bought a new driver, improved my iron swings and upgraded my irons. While I've vastly improved my putting (marking lines on the ball and standardizing my stroke), I haven't ever hit a putt and thought "my putter let me down just now." From a DIY golfer's perspective, technique > club change.

I just can't use anything but a PING Anser style putter. Basically grew up with it. As a kid, I used to tag along with my dad to the driving range. While he hit balls, I would grab his putter and use it on the mini putt course. His putter ended up in my bag as I was learning to play golf and was the only club to stay in the bag for 20+ years. About 4 years ago, I was looking for a new putter and tried everything. I really wanted to try out all the different styles, but everything felt off, so I ended up getting the PING Anser Sigma G.

Make a video of your fitting! Would love to see the process and how you personally deal with that situation. People might be afraid to get fittings because they don’t know what to expect or are insecure. You can help a lot of golfers by exposing the process along the way with your own YouTube personality style. Thanks

3:35 I think your animation has it the wrong way around. Hit with the toe and the heel twists forward, just like you demonstrate right after.

Recently purchased the putter I used in high school, Taylormade Nubbins M4. The nostalgia alone saves me a few putts a round

Seven years ago i was desperate to find a new putter and headed off to a local golf shop here in Thailand where i was teaching English and struggling on the greens. Unfortunately i wasn't able to find what I was looking for but did find my future life partner who was the shop manager, happy days. PS I have since returned to the putter I found in a bargain bin in Australia more than 20 years ago, and it works fine. Cheers and thanks for all your excellent videos.

I use a Cameron California Del Mar. it’s been in the bag for over 7 years. I’ve tried others but nothing compares. No fitting, just trying the standard setup proved that it was what I needed. I’ll keep it in the bag unless I get a new Del Mar.

I found the putter fitting to be super beneficial. The technology they use gives you a lot of data on your mechanics that you aren’t aware of (ie strike and path). That alone made me a better putter and opened my eyes to different styles of putters. Cheers.

Honestly Peter, I totally agree, but for example here in the South of Spain, I have looked several times and so far have been unable to find anyone doing putter fitting in a 200km radius. Yet, pretty much all local clubs do fittings for woods and irons. It's a shame because the industry tends to forget about the most important aspect of the game, and there are no experts in putting, neither when it comes to teaching nor fitting.

Get down to TXG in Toronto, I’d love to see how your fitting goes

My putting is brilliant, lucky, or sometimes awful, after reading Bob Rotella putting out of your mind, I have come to an understanding that your confidence and trust in your eyes /brain to read and execute the putt is key. Well worth a read.

When I bought my latest set of clubs (2016-17 Lynx Predators) I had a few putters to choose from with different head designs, I just stepped onto the indoor test green (carpet) and had a swing. First thing I was looking for was head twisting during the swing (got rid of two straight away because they dragged the head round), the next was the control of the swing and I found I hated the large mallet putter as it felt like I had less control over the pressure I applied and it hit "heavy". I ended up choosing a Lynx Predator P-04 blade putter as it just felt right (doesn't mean I'll get the ball in the hole ever time but it will give me a fighting chance).

Back in the 90's I borrowed three different putters from the pro shop to try them out on the course. On the first hole I grabbed one of the putters and holed a 45 ft putt for birdie. On the second hole I grabbed one of the other putters and holed another 40 footer for birdie. I decided it didn't matter which putter I used, so I kept my old putter. Currently I'm using an Odyssey White Hot OG #1WS Golf Putter and I've had people thank me for the putting display I've put on during the round... I also have a Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum Laguna 2.5 at home, but I feel like the ball bounce off of the face when I'm using it, while the Odyssey putter has a much softer feel to it. I've never been fitted for a putter though, but I might consider it in the future if I loose all confidence in my current putter.

I believe good putters (those who know how to read greens well and know how to start a ball on line at the right speed) can use almost any putter. Proper green reading and practice is much more important than the stick you use, in my humble opinion.

Maybe I'm a odd ball, but I like to use 2 different putters when playing. I use a mallet-style for medium to very long distance hits and a blade style for up close.

I recently bought a Callaway 11 putter with a centershaft. Before that I was actually using a center shaft, Wilson blade, so I hope the mallet will do good things for me.
