Star Island in 4K | Miami | Florida | Neighborhood Tour

Star Island has always been a place that would cause me to bend my neck to the north as I drove towards or away from South Beach on Macarthur Causeway.

It's the place that I and tourists visiting Miami would look at from tourboats, hoping to see a celebrity or famous person. We would hear the stories about those people from the tour guide telling us about Shaq, Rosie O'Donell, Gloria Estefan, Don Johnson, or so many others that have made Star Island their homes. It's a very magical place that I've looked at fondly from when I was a kid to a 50+ year old adult.

I always wondered what was behind that private gate guarded so well, preventing intruders from entering. It was always very mysterious to me what exactly was there and how the ultra high networth people lived.

Prices have gone up astronomically since I was a kid. I won't be surprised if within the next few years we hear about a $100M+ sale. There was recently a $100M+ sale in Coconut Grove that Ken Griffin of the Citadel hedge fund purchased recently, so it only makes sense that the same will follow here.

Being a luxury real estate agent in Miami, I have been able to go behind the guard gated entrance for business many times. Below is a short description of what exactly Star Island is according to Wikipedia.

Star Island is a neighborhood in the city of Miami Beach on a man-made island in Biscayne Bay, Florida, United States. The island is south of the Venetian Islands and just east of Palm and Hibiscus islands.

Completed in 1922 by the Army Corps of Engineers by dredging sand, the land was initially owned by developer Carl Fisher, who purchased several land parcels of what would become the city of Miami Beach. It is accessible by land and barrier islands via the MacArthur Causeway.

Celebrities who own or have owned homes on the island include Edward Howland Robinson Green, Sean Combs, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Don Johnson, Rosie O'Donnell, Xuxa, Shaquille O'Neal, and Phillip Frost.

Tour guides and real estate agents have made false claims of some other celebrities having homes on Star Island, such as LeBron James, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Julio Iglesias, Madonna, Sylvester Stallone and Elizabeth Taylor.

Rosie O’Donnell’s Star Island house (purchased in 1999) was the subject of a 1979 trial in which prosecutors alleged that it was being used by members of the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church to run a marijuana smuggling ring. Some scenes from the 1994 movie The Specialist were filmed there.

Ok, enough with the Wikipedia stuff. Time to check out the video!
