ÉVREUX | What to see in a day!
We travelled to Évreux to explore its magnificent monuments and get the feel of this beautiful city in Normandie. Évreux was badly damaged during WWII, so a lot of buildings were built from scratch, with monuments being restored- they look so good you'd never think any restoration was done. Join us on a virtual tour of this gorgeous city that made us feel welcomed.

The cathedrals in Normandy are very similar to those in England, as they were built in a kind of Romanesque building boom that happened in the 11thc in the areas under the Duke of Normandy. Later they were given gothic make overs, but they were often working with the restrictions of adding onto an older building rather than starting from scratch. Because of this they don't really reach to the same heights as the gothic cathedrals built in the areas around Paris, whose constructions began later. It also gives them a rather eclectic feel, gothic choirs bolted onto Romanesque naves, but i personally prefer the feeling of a building whose different periods of construction can be more easily read.
