Agree with your principles and they can even be applied to small spaces. We lived in our apartment for 3 years and did nothing with our patio space because it was small and turned it some storage. Once I decided to upgrade our space, it felt like our living space doubled. Now we had another area for entertaining and the stylish elements extended the living room outward. The color palette was cream and black with green plants for accents and brass accessories. I laid down a jute rug, teak chairs, a drum style beverage table between them and a coffee table in front of us. I got gorgeous black and cream textured outdoor pillows, tall/med/small Smith & Hawken lanterns and tons of plants, candles and trays to make the space feel elevated. Finally we strung lights over the covered part of the patio and hung baby lanterns on the fence so we could have layered lighting elements.
The whole thing turned into a gorgeous oasis and gave us so much chic living space for ourselves and guests.

I bought my outdoor set from an estate sale and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I paid $10.00 for a patio set I've had for years and I'm sure was pre-loved for decades!!!

I’ve paid almost as much for my outdoor furniture as I have my indoor purchases. I used to go cheap but those things didn’t last in the hot Texas sun and ended up having to be replaced. Now I go with iron/cast aluminum and solid wood. Both can be refinished or spray painted as needed. I LOVE being outside. ❤️

This was perfect timing and by happen stance that I came across your channel. We just had an outdoor patio space built to give us more space to entertain outdoors. I have been mixing my furniture between wrought iron, wood, and woven sunbrella furniture set. I'm adding pictures on the wall, plants, fire pit table etc. I don't want just a simple blah outdoor space. Thanks so much for this video. it was perfect timing for me.

Excellent advice. I liked my outdoor space but felt it was lacking something. I have a fairly large wooden table outside under a pergola because I entertain there frequently. It was ok but nothing special. Then I remembered my sad broken wedgewood dark blue florentine bone china. I had 12 dinner plates boxed up in the garage while I was doing a remodel. My mother Inadvertently placed something heavy on the box and all 12 broke. A light bulb went off in my head and I hired a mosaic artist to cover the top and sides of the table with the pieces of the broken plates. She did an amazing job and it is gorgeous and unique. A work of art. Now my outdoor space is a show stopper.
Looking forward to your video on your outdoor space. I know it will be beautiful.

Yes, I’m definitely interested in content to do with the outdoors! And yes, I really love items outside with patina. When you’ve gone to that beautiful outdoor garden center, I’ve noticed all the lovely planters and decor items that look like they’re from Old World Europe.

Oh Valentina! This has given me so many ideas and joy. We bought a little fixer upper deep in the Galician countryside last year and believe me, it required a lot of vision and still a lot of work. But now the spring is upon us, I really want to get to work on the garden. As you will remember from living in Europe, country houses have lots of decorative stone pieces. We have been fortunate to uncover lots of hidden gems whilst clearing away the rubble (even a vintage farm cart - beautiful). Now I am even more inspired. Thank you..as always!

This is fantastic content, Valentina! I just bought a house and looking to furnish the backyard, so this is perfect timing. I’d love to see more of this! 😍

One more thing to consider when buying furniture: where you live. In Arizona, a lot of furniture or decor is impractical because the sun will cause damage quickly to certain woods, plants, etc.

Again, love what you say and how you say it! I know people in this time may not have the extra to get what some are able to afford. But you give encouragement, ideas, alternatives to everyone on every level. I’m so impressed by that! My husband and I are able to afford some thing but like you said, we have been married for 25+ yrs, all kids are grown, out on their own. But, there was a time-wouldn’t be able to rub 2 nickels together. Can make huge difference in what you can afford. Just thank you for being so sensitive to everyone! You have a good ♥️!

Great pointers V! Thank you! We just completed our backyard project with a pool, patio, landscaping and I had to remind my hubby about the “cheaping out” point for furniture - we didn’t just do this massive, beautiful backyard oasis just to put in plastic chairs 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 We are still working on getting that “old” vibe sprinkled in through pottery but almost there!

We live in Houston so one other pointer I would add is think through materials and maintenance. We get extreme heat and humidity, so making sure materials chosen can stand up to the environment with limited maintenance is key!
