I hear you, brother, and I hear my own words in yours. I have my own struggles, my own set of medication and I agree. Being out in the green, able to unpack everything while wandering around the fields always helps. I think that the repetitive nature of the task is part of why it is soothing... and knowing that whether you find anything or not, it is still a good day when there is soil under the coil.

You are one of the reasons I started metal detecting and I started metal detecting to get out of the house. These Covid shutdowns and not working for six plus months was pretty rough on my depression and anxiety. So getting out, by myself, at the beach or wherever has helped incredibly. Thank you for sharing your struggles and truth and for inspiring me and others to get out there.

Grim, it's OK to not be OK, I suffer daily, I've used drugs and Alcohol to help me cope, but have now realised this makes things worse, I have been sober for 3months now, best decision I've ever made. .. Everybody who is suffering just talk it through. Grim your the best.. Stay strong and merry Xmas

Thank you so much for sharing! I struggle every day as well! I actually bought an expensive (at least for me) metal detector and haven't had the nerve months later to use it because it intimidates me so much. Maybe it's because I'm "oldish" My reason for getting it was to, like you said, to get out and forget about all the stressors and just enjoy myself. Hopefully soon I'll be able to do that. I'll keep you in my thoughts and thank you so much for the joy you bring💝

Why would I unsubscribe? You've shown how human you are! I admire you for your honesty. People who act like everything in life is perfect are FAKE. Life can really suck sometimes. What helps me is looking at what I have done and look at my children and see how fortunate I am and try to stay away from negative people. Ok I'll shut up now😉. Keep your chin up. I wish you the best!!!

Real men share and show their fears and feelings so don't apologize for being vulnerable open and honest. Just know that there's always someone out there who cares and will gladly help you out if you need it. I know this new year is going to bring much needed joy and happiness back to this world. Just hang in there and accept this hug from a stranger who cares. 🤗💜👍

Upmost respect to you. I lost my wife in April this year, she was only 42 and it completely screwed my head up. I have had some very dark days to the point where I didn’t want to be here anymore, but I pushed through with the help of my kids and family. Like you I over think things and my head seems to be running at 100 miles an hour affecting me mentally as well as physically (which surprised me). I have tried the counselling, which didn’t really work for me and currently giving medication a go, but I do feel like I am taking small steps forward now.

It’s definitely important to keep talking, stay safe and look after yourself.

Metal detecting is a really focused activity- I think of nothing else when I’m doing it. So in that sense it is a bit like a meditation and could be therapeutic for people with busy for the post and keep up the Bleeping. Oh, and I just subscribed : >))

Grim buddy - sorry to hear about your struggle. I myself have struggled with issues for many years and metal detecting is one of my coping mechanisms... do you know there is some science behind why?
Autumn Watch did a segment the other day about how there are certain bacteria's in the soil that when you dig it cause anti-depressive qualities!! So keep digging that soil mate.

What else helps me.... daily routine. Yoga, meditation, exercise and one of the biggest is diet (not for everyone). When you've been depressed you change the makeup of your gut biome and getting that back can have extreme results. Different things work for different people, but try increasing pre-biotics (Avocado each day has amazing results for some), home made sauerkraut, loads of fruit and veg. I know this can sound quacky, but I am the biggest sceptic ever and seriously it helps.

I love watching your videos, you seem like such a lovely genuine guy, the sort that I'd love to have as a friend.

Keep the videos coming!

Good on ya! I bought my detector, finally, for the sole purpose of getting out and into old forest where I grew up and other places. I love these technological tools and metal detecting is something I've always wanted to get into and it is also good medicine for my mental health and physical health, which are both not doing well.

Consider this: Where you live how old is the oldest metal you can find (man smelted metal)? I live in Mississauga ON Canada so the oldest forged metals are around 1700 and up. I find is a find however; I just got started so finding pennies from the 1980's is still fun!

thank you!!! i bought a motorbike lol and i never thought about metal detecting (well i did but not enough to watch youtube videos) until about 12 months ago. Ive been fighting anxiety and depression for 9 years now , i was doing not to bad until 18 months ago when my son (who was my best mate aswell ) who was 20 was killed in a car crash that his mate was driving. The only thing that has kept me going is the fact that i have an awsume women and two smaller children with her (the boy is 8 and the little girl is 18 months, she was born two days b4 he was killed and he only got to see a pic of her). im 40 now and in January on my bday i was in hospital getting my new hardware installed (2 stints because of the massive heart attack )and still people that know me think im doing good. so i guess im saying, like you, im pretty good at hiding it. you have my full respect for making this video and it inspired me to share my story for the first time so again Thank you

Good on yer Grim. Anyone that unsubscribes from your channel shows up their true nature more than yours. Keep up the great content. Happy Xmas to you and yours!!

Thank you for showing a side of Metal Detecting and Life, that most people try to ignore. I find detecting a way to unwind and destress as well and gives me the chance to forget about everything else, if even just for a while. I too struggle with mental health issues and have my entire life. It is so wonderful to see more people standing up and talking about this issue, instead of always sweeping it under a bush somewhere. Keep on being yourself Grim and don't ever apologize for who you are or what you deal with.
