Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the greatest shows of the last 30 years, but it hasn’t been treated with the respect it deserves in adaptations. The M. Night Shyamalan movie? Let's be real—it was one of the top 5 worst movies ever, and the guy should have been thrown in jail for making it. And while The Legend of Korra was a solid follow-up, most fans wanted more stories centered around the original cast in movies, shows, and especially games.

While Netflix is still trying to give The Last Airbender the live-action One Piece treatment, though with less impressive results, it's finally time for fans to celebrate. We're getting a proper AAA video game, courtesy of Saber Interactive and Paramount—and that combo makes me excited.

Saber Interactive, the studio behind successful projects like World War Z and Space Marine 2, and now working on the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake, will be developing the new Avatar game in collaboration with Paramount. Their track record makes me excited for the Saber Interactive Avatar project.

But there's a twist that might disappoint some fans of Aang and the original crew. The new Avatar: The Last Airbender game will reportedly be set 1,000 years in the past, featuring a brand-new Avatar. This means older Avatars like Kyoshi won’t even be in the picture. The story might follow the Avatar that directly preceded Fire Nation Avatar Szeto, who is the oldest known Avatar to date.

Despite not featuring Aang or Kyoshi, the developers promise the core experience of Avatar will remain intact in this open-world game. You’ll get to explore the world, learn all four elements, and meet new companions along the way. This Saber Interactive Avatar game is said to be the biggest game they’ve made yet, and I think it's a fair trade-off to have a new story with original characters, especially if it delivers with the quality of their previous projects like Warhammer 40,000.

Seeing an open world Avatar: The Last Airbender game on PS5 or the PS5 Pro sounds like a dream come true, and Saber Interactive has proven they can handle large-scale experiences. Let's hope they bring their A-game for this one. Plus, Paramount is involved, giving fans hope that they'll finally get the respect the series deserves, especially after all those missed opportunities.

Saber Interactive has been making a lot of licensed games lately, and I'm really hoping they were listening when I pitched my idea for an open-world Marvel Zombies game or a Teen Titans game with DC Comics.

Avatar with original characters is the best route to go. We all know Aang & Korra’s story. They can’t try new things or go too far out of the box with existing stories.

I'm honestly that guy in the room being like "FINALLY" cause there hasn't been any great games based on the world of the Last Airbender since Platinum's take on Legend of Korra which absolutely slaps by the way, which is so far the series peak when it comes to Video Game Adaptations the recent dog water release of Quest for Balance by Gamemill was a complete joke and was among last year's biggest stinkers next to a few other Gamemill releases being Walking Dead Destinies and Skull Island Rise of Kong, The World of the Last Airbender deserves so much better and hopefully this might be it.

Let’s go! Saber gets all the credit for being trusted with both of these huge IPs. They honored and were true to the source material of Warhammer and fans noticed. Idk why it’s so hard for some of these studios to do the same.
