I went to Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa back in the 80's.Chuck Smith was the pastor.Great Church, Great Pastor.I still listen to and keep up with different Calvary Chapel ministries.This Mike Stinnette guy is one bitter dude.

I agree that anyone who has been involved in sexual misconduct should never be allowed to get back into church ministry. People in ministry, who have been involved in theft should never be allowed to get back into church ministry. As for cover ups, we need to remember, "For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.” Jesus is the righteous judge. He is no respecter of persons, and he knows--not only our deeds done in the dark--but the thoughts and intents of the heart. It is frustrating, when it seems as though people (especially church leaders) are getting away with sin. It is disheartening, when trying to expose the truth, to be the victim of character assassination, or to literally be called a liar by 'Christians.' Time is short; eternity is forever. Jesus knows it all and he will make things right. Christians, including pastors, are only human and are never perfect. We can be forgiven and restored, if we repent; but there are some sins that disqualify one from continued service as pastors, teachers, financial positions.

I was involved in Calvary Chapel back in the early 1980's. First Highland Park CA, then Eagle Rock, Then Glendale, and evntually the foothills of Sun Valley CA. Got very involved and saw a lot of greed and power hungry so called brothers of the lord. Mainly the pastor. very abusive and controlling. treated us like children. but behind the scenes is something else. You wouldn't believe of what some of these pastors this guy named do?? and all the guise of brother of the lord use God as a sheild while they continue to not pratice what they peach. When i questioned i was suddenly accused of terrible incident in which i had no idea who casued it, but it was easy to accume the accused and was looked at very differently until i left. even though they had no proof and eventually dropped the charges. years later another so called brother in the lord was arrestted for making those obscene phone calls when the cops traced it back to his house. this guy led wworship and played the guitar beautifully!! Yeah so i had my fill with Calvary Chapels. From then i i looked at all churches differently. I saw them in a different light from my experiences with them.

I am 74 years of age and met Chuck Smith very briefly before entering the military in late 1970. I asked him what he thought of the Vietnam war, it seemdd that nobody had asked him about it before. I have recently reflected upon his obsession with the hippies, when many other types of people such as military veterans and those who didn't give themselves over to drugs, were not mentioned so much. You cannot be much younger than me and still understand those times. There is so much more to say, some good and some spectacularly bad, with Christianity in America at that time. If I had to select just one scene to represent the bad, it did not involve Calvary Chapel. It was Richard Nixon holding hands up in the air with Billy Graham at Knoxville's Ney stadium in May 1970. Like I said, there is so much more to say.

Calvary chapel is a big tree— in that tree are a lot of wonderful good churches that teach the word—like every other denomination there is good and bad… the genius of Calvary Chapel is -that it is not centralized…so corruption can’t spread… none of these mega churches tell the other Calvary churches what to do..so in that sense it’s not a denomination…applegate isn’t even a Calvary Chapel…you have had some very difficult experienced..but putting chuck smith with a pentagram is just totally spiteful and untrue..he was not a satanist

If you’re so in the know about Calvary Chapel, how is it you’re discussing Chuck Smith as if he’s still alive? Chuck Smith passed away October 3, 2013.

The “land thing” he’s lying about and couldn’t even say what it was with regard to Jon Courson, happened in 2002 when Jon was in Mexico. All it was was a minor permit issue. I can only assume he’s one of the people from Ruch, Oregon, where Jon Courson founded Applegate Christian Fellowship, who was/is bitter that the church was built there. Twenty-002 is when the outdoor amphitheater was built and outdoor services began, and their parking lot was upgraded. Some locals in the area were complaining about the worship music and traffic.

I knew Jon Courson personally because he was my Pastor at ACF, and there’s no way he would have ever said he was going to Costa Mesa to take over Calvary Chapels. Jon was at Calvary Chapel for approximately 3 years early on under Chuck Smith’s mentorship and in the early 2000’s he went to Mexico to train future Pastors.


To make up ridiculous lies about men as this guy and his sidekicks have, is despicable and I submit anyone believing them has no discernment capabilities.

Calvary Chapels are thriving because they teach the Word of God, book by book, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse; they aren’t being shut down by a long shot.

If you are a new believer, turn this off, stay in God's Word. Theses people are spoken of in the bible.. Proverbs chapter 16.says, "He that soweth discord almond the brethren.." God says they are abomination in His eyes. We don't need to waste our time looking for the sin in this guy's life. There is plenty. We need to follow our Lord Jesus and fulfill our ministry, whatever God had called us to do. Don't waste you're time on the internet listening to guts like this. You will be on the internet for the rest of your life. They will always be there, ALWAYS.
