How to Fix GoPro Hero 8 Lens Glass

The worst part about the GoPro Hero 8 was that they removed the ability to twist off and replace the lens cover. Yea, they brought it back for the Hero 9, but what about all of use who already have Hero 8's lying around?? Well, I just learned about a company called Camera Butter who started producing glass replacement kits for the Hero 8. The process honestly seems pretty damn easy and I'm gonna test it out today and show you guys how to do it.

3 years later - still an excellent video! I saw a video when the GoPro 8 first came out, and the guy reviewing it had it fall off of his truck bumper, and it hit perfectly on the lens cover to shatter it! This made me park my GoPro 8 until I purchased a Ulanzi metal cage for it, and at on a screw on lens protector protector! More recently, I see some slip on lens cover and lens - with a lens cap as well. I ordered on of those to check it out. No matter what though, it is possible to shatter the glass, so this video is quite valuable now too! Thanks for sharing!

really handy to know, just in case. I would also reccomend protecting it well, when i got my H8 I also got a tempered glass lense protector and also a clip on filter kit with a lense cap too. So if all that doesn't work to protect me, you've got my back, thanks and keep up the good work.

one tip, use disposable gloves, so you have no problem touching any parts and leaving finger prints on it, i am doing this every time i put on a screen protector on a phone

I recommend using a mini suction cup to remove (with the spudger) and do the same when applying the new glass. Much more ergonomic for me.

Does the Camera butter confirm that it will stay waterproof after replacing?

I have the Gopro hero 8 and i have scratch's and little cracks on the LCD screen on the rear.
I hope Gopro does that for the rear LCD screen so it was that easy to remove.

Game changer right Replacement of the screen was the only problem with the 8. The only doubt i have at this point if water resistance.... sorry to use you as a tester, but have you tried to use it in the water after the change?

As an additional tip I used a very small thin craft knife- the ones that are cheap and plastic, as a scraper. It fitted in round the lens and got the old sticky stuff off easily. Also, some needle point tweezers to make sure al the sticky bobbles were out before the new lens went in.
