The Smashing Pumpkins came to Norman, Oklahoma to open for the Chainsaw Kittens a few months before Gish came out. I was a freshman at OU and a big Kittens fan. It was at the Hollywood Theater…a tiny movie theater that sometimes hosted concerts. I had no idea who the Pumpkins were, but as soon as they emerged onstage and hit us with I am One, I was hooked. They played this intense and amazing show. They had everyone swaying in uniform. As they lights dimmed for this extended version of Rhinoceros…we were transfixed like in another state of being. Almost like being transported. It was strange. I was straight edge, so completely sober. But, Billy and company had us in the palm of their hands. Suddenly things were picking up. The lights began to brighten and the wall of sound was getting louder. They were building to something and suddenly we crescendo and explode into “Siva” and I lost my goddamn mind. Everyone did. No band had ever done that to me before. After the show, the boys were in the lobby talking and being down to earth people. Poor Darcy had to wait in the van coz apparently dudes always hit on her. That’s too bad coz she was amazing all night. I left that night a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. Of course I got Gish the day it came out and remains my favorite album. You can understand why I’m sure.

I feel blessed. Born in 1977, yes there was the cold war, but humans still had fun and some cash to spend. The 90s was an explosion of music on every genre.
Trip hop, hip hop, trance and psychedelic trance, alternative rock, metal explored multiple new paths...Gish, Siamese Dream and Mellon Colie, are masterpieces.

Been a SP a fan since Gish was released in 1991. Just as the hair band scene was dying out, the Seattle grunge scene was gearing up fast, and I love the bands from there like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Brad, and The Melvins, but something about that band from Chicago that really drew me in. Billy had a way of honing you in, and 32 years later I'm still captivated.

With all the grunge bands popping off, this song was like a ballistic missle to the brain. The guitar work honors the old gods and the new.

I meet a Resident in the PACU who was named Dr. Gish. Hello again Dr. Gish!!! Many great nights of work there!!! Two moments actually. I asked "hey Dr. GIsh you know the album by Smashing Pumpkins as I was recovering patients in the PACU just out of surgery? He said yeah. His Grandmother was talking I am sure flirting with Billy in a a 'diner' out there land...The Second moment I am proud of with Dr. Gish is we sent home a patient who coded...actually he walked out!!!

Man SO GOOD Souvenirs : 1st Time I've Heard about this Track ! How can I describe in 1994, this Feeling to find out some kind of a Smashing Band just inside looking for what I were Plenty in my 16 years old :-)

I guess Smashing Pumpkins reunion week in Chicago! Not sure if I saw them for the first time at a warehouse party in 1990 I think but new this song and Gish a bit and was a drummer trying to play Jimmy Chamberlain parts like this one! I think there at the United Center starting tonight and Tuesday and hoping to make one night. Thinking they still should get Guns n Roses n do the cancelled 2nd night of there opening slot for folks who have tickets or proof?!! Maybe a Metro or Aragon show as I got into songwriting and singing in part cause life's a bummer when your a hummer. A Little chuckle from WC. Enjoy the music.
