Training Your Irish Terrier in 2 Weeks

My IT is difficult to train because he doesn't care about food that much as a reward. I have him trained well enough that I can walk him without a leash in public. But the only other thing I really want to teach is fetching the ball. He will only return it when I throw from behind, where we came from because when I throw it out in front of us he chases and then catches but will rarely return it. Any tips?
