The entire documentary explained in 2 and a half minutes BUT they neglected to show that the platform had to be raised up to the center union to be towed out to sea that way it wouldn't drag the sea floor and topple itself. That area outside the construction area must've been super deep to be able to consume the entire leg structure for mating, the legs alone I think are taller than the Eiffel Tower...

That was the most beautiful engineering video I have ever seen.

I'd like to see the 2nd half of the operation; arrival at the work site and anchoring the towers to the sea floor. How do they anchor it strongly enough to withstand
North Sea storms and ocean currents pushing against the whole of it's 300 meters height.
Which tanks are flooded while at the same time workers are still able to access to bottom most parts of the platform's legs.
This, is amazing technology. Impressive.
At dawn one morning in the early 1990s off the North Sea coast of Scotland I saw an oil/gas rig being towed out to see. it was laying on it's side and would have undergone
a controlled sinking so that it would sink down feet first. That was an amazing sight seeing something that huge, laying on it's side, and being towed out to sea.

Just watching parts falling together and think how hard it would be to animate....

Half 2 in the morning and I am watching this, how did I get here? 😂

Cleanest platform I have even been on. Has one gas turbine generator infrequently used, power is supplied from the shore via subsea cable. You can also travel to the sea bed down one leg, crazy Norwegians ran down to the sea bed on the access stairs, then back up again🤔🤪🤔🤪

Shell was the operator at first, and it had a derrick from the beginning that was recently removed offshore.

Nice work, would you allow me to post the video on my Facebook page with the source mentioned ?!

I don’t understand how they can tow that or how exactly it’s mounted to the sea floor. I thought it was attached to the sea bedrock it’s on. I had no idea it was like moved there or whatever’s

This film have several errors. The platform it places on top of the legs is how it is today, with a transformerhouse, but it was added later. In the beginning it had a boring rig, that later was taken away, and the transformehous ( or actually a DC-AC converter) was added later because, Troll A was one of the first platform that was not producing its own electricity (by gasturbines) but imported electricity produced from water onshore.

how does that thing stay upright before it is fixed to the ocean floor? How do they lift and lower it ?

How did the water keep rising...or did they towed it in even more deeper..

But how did they tow it? Why wouldn't it tip when the tugs tugged?

This 2 minutes are worth more than 50 minutes of stupid National Geographic Documentary

Which part of the structure gets flooded to lower the structure?
